Silicone sealants and adhesives are inert, synthetic compounds with a wide variety of forms and uses. They are typically heat-resistant and rubber-like.

Adhesives and glues are mixtures dispensed in a liquid or semi-liquid state, applied to adhere or bond items or materials together. Adhesives do not form an instantaneous bond, unlike other joining processes, because the adhesive needs time to cure (harden). Adhesives cure by either evaporating a solvent or by chemical reactions that occur between two or more constituents. Adhesives are advantageous for joining thin or dissimilar materials, minimizing weight, and when a vibration-dampening joint is needed

Sealants create a barrier to prevent the penetration of air, gas, dust, fire, smoke, liquid, and even noise from one location into another. Typically, sealants are used to close small openings that are difficult to eliminate through other processes or materials. Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) sealant starts to cure as soon as it is exposed to moisture in the air. It is necessary that you work quickly when using RTV silicone sealant.
